Podcast Ep1: Mark Weingartner, ASC – VFX DP of Dark Knight

Listening time: 1:14:07 mins – this one is a podcast interview

Here Comes the very first episode of the Film-Life Lab Podcast 🙂

I wanted to do interviews on the topics Film-Life Lab covers, but was thinking about the format for a while.
Finally I decided to go with the audio format. This way you can experience the knowledge of the professionals in a bit more personal way.

So among the written articles, you will see these podcast posts as well. You can subscribe to these on iTunes as well or can listen to on Spotify and Google Play Music.

The first interviewee is Mark Weingartner, ASC. He’s the Visual Effects DP of Dark Knight, Inception, last Hunger Games, Dunkirk, etc. (for further credits check him out on IMDb) He generously helped me to create this interview, and shared a lot of things with me.

The main topics you can learn about from his experience are these:

  • What does a VFX DP do*
  • Managing a team of people you don’t know
  • Managing time on set
  • Delegating tasks
  • Relationship with upper-management
  • Career path from something non film through lighting, to DP-ing
  • Work/Private-Life Balance
  • Financial planning while working in film industry

You can listen to it here below or on iTunes, on   Spotify and on  Google Play.

P.s.: I’ve definitely got to get used to hearing my own voice 🙂

*I will always ask what the interviewee’s job description is. Most of us know what an AD or DP does, but I strongly believe we can always learn new things from hearing the about the same idea from a totally different perspective than ours. I think this wider understanding of the roles will just make the co-operation of separate departments easier.

We would love to hear your stories in the comments below!
